About Benjamin

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

– Robert A. Heinlein

I am a professional writer, filmmaker, educator, and general adventurer based in Longmont, CO. In my professional life, I have pursued a truly diverse set of passions and interests. The unifying theme behind all of them is this: I am a storyteller.

I am passionate about sharing stories with people and igniting their imaginations. Whether I am presenting to an audience about the First World War, writing a novel set in a science fiction future, or creating a video about forest ecology, I think communicating the story is essential. Stories excite people where bland facts turn them off. Stories make people care, and people who care want to act. People who act can change the world.

  • As a filmmaker, I have a diverse set of interests. Narrative fiction filmmaking is my first love, but I have expanded my talents to include documentary and educational films as well. I have created promotional and instructional videos for Colorado State University, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, and the Boulder County Youth Corps, among others.
  • As a writer, I have co-created the Line of Battle science fiction series as part of the pseudononymous writing pair called W.P. Brothers. My first novel in this series, Outpost, hit book stores in 2017. I am also working independently on The Glory of Their Deeds, a novel set during the First World War. In the realm of non-fiction, I have written for the GCA Journal, a military history magazine with a readership of 20,000. I love historical fiction and am especially passionate about bringing recognition and justice to the forgotten pages of history.
  • Since 2012, I have worked as a presenter and educator of First World War history. I have spoken at multiple venues and continue to develop my work for diverse audiences. The highlight of my work was when I delivered a talk about World War I weapons and tactics to more than 80 paying audience members at the Longmont Museum in 2018 as part of the museum’s Great War centennial commemorations.
